The last 5 miles.

From Pricketts Fort we took the rail trail into East Side. Traffic was bad getting across the bridge and we shortend the ride up a bit by going directly to the backdrive of the highschool. From there we met Tom Nickolich and made our way back to Farms Drive where I picked up my son on his bike. After crossing Fairmont AVenue we made the turn and was absolutely amazed!!!!!!! So many people and the FSHS cheerleading squad to boot!!

What a great memory that will be of coming down 12th street to see everyone. Thanks so much.

The ride is over but the struggle continues.........

Day 9 - The last day

I'm not scheduled to arrive in Fairmont till 5pm. That means theoretically that I can hang around Oakland till about noon. I can't do that!! I'm too anxious!

Awoke this morning with my son snuggled up next to me. We got up and had a breakfast in the little diner next to the motel. The weather looked menacing with a slight mist in the air. I'm worried about my knee a bit in the mountains. The profile for the ride is pretty wicked with climbing all the way thru Terra Alta and then the big down and up to Kingwood.

I started at 8:30 and sent Seth and Bayden on the road to grandma's. The knee felt fine and the climbs passed quickly. I stopped in Kingwood for about an hour to have a cappucino and get my phone working. I rebooted it and it worked fine. Sent out a bunch of pics and posts.

From Kingwood I took Dogtown Road which took me to Gladesville and from there on Flat Rock Road into Brown's Chapel. I got here at 1pm and if I kept going I'd be in Pricketts by 2:15!!!! Oh no, I have to stop!

I found a convenience store and bought a newspaper and dozed in the sunshine. I can't believe the ride is almost over.

At 3:30 I saddled back up and hit the road. I hit route 73 and was still early so I headed up to Opikispa (sp??) and down thru there to the rail trail. What a great road. When I hit the rail trail I thought I was closer than I was. I had 15 minutes to make about 3 miles. Yikes.

I pulled into Prickett's Fort and was greeted by friends and family. Greg Patrick and Lisa Perry were there. My brother and his kids and Steve Boyer and the WBOY TV station. Almost done...........

Day 8 in the books

Last night as I arrived in Oakland, MD I was anxiously waiting news from my wife. She had left CT that morning and was heading to Oakland to meet me with our son Bayden. I pulled into town at about 3:30 after a nice day on the bike. I had to climb out of Paw Paw WV and then head towards Keyser WV.

My phone had not been functioning either for a period of time since I got into Paw Paw. I ran into a library in Keyser and sent a post for all.

At 4:30pm my wife and son arrived and we hung out at the little motel for a while before driving up to Deep Creek to meet my brother. Pizzeria Uno was the site we ate at and I had a big ol' bowl of fettucine alfredo. Yum.

We came back after that and hit the sack for a big day tomorrow!
