Start to Day 5 is at least DRYYYYYYYYYYY!

No, I did not wake again to the sound of splitter splatter, splitter splatter dopp, dopp, dopp. (btw, that's the sound that rain makes according to Dr. Seuss).

Getting to head out as soon as it's light.

Day 4 in the books but the pages are wet!!!!!!!!

Never, ever again will I ride my bike................. today
Wow, what a miserable day.
I had to cut short the ride. Too cold and wet, problem with rear wheel, aching knee (probably due to the weather).
I'll get back on track tomorrow as I'm only about 20 miles short of planned destination.

So far a total of about 250 miles down.

And we're off!..........

The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same.
Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination – Don Williams, Jr

Hello to all!
The journey to my home town begins today. The journey to end cancer continues but all of you have helped to make a small yet perceptible difference.

As I begin the ride we have raised over $1,900 dollars in support of cancer research almost doubling our original goal. However as I pedal along I’m counting on you all to get the word out so we can top the 2K mark before I arrive in Fairmont. I’ll be keeping track!

I am looking forward with excitement to the trials and tribulations of the journey and getting back home to friends and family.

A couple of notes before I saddle up.

1. Follow me in a couple different spots on the web. I’ll be posting photos, texts and videos from the road each day so there will always be some news coming!:

Bike to the Reunion: http://fshsbiketoreunion.blogspot.com/ - That's this site!!!!!!!1

Join our Facebook Group Site: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=150773280883

2. Arrival day in Fairmont is 17 September. From the poll and other sources there will be many of you in town and looking to link up as I pull into town. There will be more details surrounding this as we get closer down the road. Kim Davidson Craddock is helping to coordinate along with Carol Amos.

3. We are still updating names for the Cancer Wall on the blog site. If you or a loved one has been impacted by this disease please send in their names and your relation.

4. You can reach me from 9-17 September on the road at eurocope1@yahoo.fr or you can text/call me at 203 727 8090. I’d love to hear from you!

That’s it for now! Get the word out!

Todd

FSHS Class Reunion 2009 - Why Ride?

Fairmont Senior High School, Fairmont, WV
Hello to everyone and all the classmates from the classes of 1980-1985 that will be heading back to Fairmont in September for the FSHS class reunion! I also hear that 1979 will be back in town as well!

I'm looking forward to the event and reconnecting with all of you!

I wanted to let you all know that in conjunction with the class reunion I'll be heading back to town albeit via a different mode of transportation........

I will be riding my bicycle from Redding, CT back to Fairmont to attend the reunion and also to raise awareness and support for cancer research. This ride will be in honor of everyone that has been impacted by this horrific disease including all FSHS classmates, friends, family members, victims and survivors.

Why Ride?

Well, it's been 30 years since our graduation. As many of you know, I lost one of my best friends of those days to cancer (Tommy Nickolich). Other FSHS classmates and friends have also lost this battle and I'm sure many of you and your families have been touched at some point by this disease.

In addition to losing my grandmother and aunt, I have stood on the sidelines as my father has beaten this killer twice. But not before losing his right arm to the disease..........

So as my wife and I sat planning our trip to Fairmont for September, we both decided that the best way to celebrate, and at the same time draw attention to the friends, classmates and family that have been touched by cancer since our graduation, was to do what Tommy and I liked to do best: Go for a Bike Ride.

Thus was born The Bike to the FSHS Class Reunion Tour - A 600 mile bike ride for Cancer Research and in memory of FSHS classmates, friends and family.

I hope you'll take a look at the trip itinerary that outlines the ride. I'll be on the road from 9-17 September and you can also keep up during the ride by becoming a member of the blog. I'll be sending updates from the road via Facebook and this Blog which has a detailed interactive map with photos and videos! CHECK OUT THE MAP DAILY!
More importantly, I hope that in your planning for the class reunion that you can help and make a small donation in the names of our classmates, friends and families to cancer research.

It's simple and fast. Simply click the link below and you'll be taken directly to the "Bike to the FSHS reunion for cancer research ride" website on the American Cancer Society homepage.

The donations are through a secure server and can be put right on your credit or debit card.

Easy, huh?

I've set a modest goal of $1000 and even a small donation on your part is extremely appreciated.

In the meantime enjoy the blog and I'll see you in Fairmont after a successful ride in support of cancer awareness and research.
Todd Copley

P.S. If anyone from the class years of 1979 - 1985 has had a friend or family member impacted by cancer (survivor or victims) please send me their name and relationship to you and I'll compile a list that will be posted on this blog. It's below so you can see it.

P.S.S - I'll be pulling into town coming from Oakland, MD on Thursday, 17 September. If you'd like to join me as I make my way into town I'd love to see you. Drop me a line and I'll update the blog as the date gets closer on the fine tuning of the ride and timing.

I'm reachable on the road at 203 727 8090 and also via eurocope1@yahoo.fr

Bike to the Reunion tops the $1000 dollar mark in just 6 days!!

A very big thanks to all for the tremendous support. We've topped over the 1K mark yesterday and who knows what we'll be able to do by the time I get on the bike on 9 September!!

Another big thanks to Carol Amos and Kim Davidson-Craddock who are helping me with arrival logistics in Fairmont. A lot of people have expressed interest in riding the last couple miles with me or alternatively meeting up at a place in town when I get there. We'll have something figured out.

Again a big thanks to all. If you haven't already visited the Facebook Group go their today but make your first stop at the American Cancer Society page to make a small donation in the name of someone you love.

P.S. I'm still accepting names for the Cancer Wall. I know there are many, many more folks out there that have been impacted. Send me their names and relationship to you and I'll add them to the wall.

It's great to hear from so many of you!

It's been a fantastic show of support so far from a lot of former classmates and friends.
We've got almost $300 bucks raised in just two days! Remember my goal was $1000 so we need to keep pushing it.

If you haven't made a donation yet drop 5-10 bucks in the kitty! Send it to your friends as well.

Thanks to all and keep up with the Facebook and Blog entries.

Phone Call With The Nickolich's

I had a great telephone conversation with Susan Nickolich the other night. I had wanted to make sure they were okay with me speaking about Tommy and the ride. They were fully supportive and I even think we may see them during the reunion festivities. I'm at least going to try and get them out for the day that I pull into Fairmont.
